Mandala Monument in Makassar City



Mandala monument is a monument that placed in Makassar city. The first rock placing was in 11th January 1994 by Soesilo Sudarman, Minister of Political and Security Coordinator. The officiall announcement was in 19th December 1995, by Indonesian’s President, Soeharto…
There are 27 bamboos that was a representative of the weapon that they used back then. Mandala monument also surrounded by pool that was a representative of the pure mind that Indonesian’s people have in that time…
Mandala monument’s total heights are 75meters long. There are 4 floor and an elevator that can take us to the top of the monument and see the city in there. On the first floor, we’ll see the pictures of a few heroes when they protected the South Sulawesi. On the second floor, there are a gallery and a meeting room…
Mandala monument built in 1 hectare, is also known as “Liberation of West Irian” monument. Even when the Independence of Indonesia, the West Irian are still in Deutch’s hands…
West Irian reunited with Indonesia after more than 20 years. In 1962, West Irian, known as Papua and retake and back to Indonesia. Because of that, Mandala monument had 62 meters heights as a symbol that West Iriam back to be part of Indonesia in 1962…
Makassar city was choosen as the location of this monument because every form of the forces was built in this city and lead by Major Jenderal Soeharto.
Every effort to have peace has been tried by Indonesia for West Irian can back to Indonesia. But, all of those efforts was rejected by Deutch. Because of that, Indonesia need to search another way…
Finally, in 1961, the President of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, made “Trikora” and Major Jenderal Soeharto as the leader. “Trikora” need to make the plans, prepare the “Operasi Komando Mandala”, and do the plans. That operation wasn’t an easy thing. A lot of things has been sacrified for Indonesia, including airplanes, boats, weapons, and the important thing, the warriors life…
On the first and second floor, there are a few of Dioramas and Reliefs.

The second floor described about the Liberation of the West Irian amd to bring it back to Indonesia. Also, there are 3 Reliefs on that floor that described the meeting or discussion to discuss about strategies that will they used to free the West Irian, Trikora Relief, and Jenderal Basuki Mawa Bea Relief……
